FAQ is an acronym for "frequently asked questions."
Q: How much do your portraits cost? A: Charcoal sketches cost $50 per head, full-color chalk pastel work costs $150 per head, acrylic paintings are $300 per head and oil paintings begin at $500 per head. I accept cash (in person- never mail cash), check, money order, credit card or paypal as forms of payment. I ship via USPS and drawings are rolled loosely and sent in a triangular priority tube. Paintings are adequately packaged in cardboard and shipped via USPS.
Q: What do you mean by "per head"? A: I charge per head or per person (animals are heads too!). These prices include a head and shoulders view- if you prefer more figure or hands, the price will increase. I can combine separate photos into one drawing. For instance, if you have several family members, I can use separate photos of each person and combine them into one drawing or painting.
Q: What size are your portraits? A: I almost always work life-sized. I prefer this to a smaller or larger format, so I charge more for those than a life-sized piece. I do not draw 8x10" or 9x12" drawings, but rather, can tell you what size frame a piece will demand. Each drawing must be matted before framing, so they range from 16x20" to 22x28" for multiple subjects.
Q: How can I order a drawing or painting?
A: Contact me at
dajsb@aol.com and you can either email or send photos to me. I also take photographs if you bring the subject to me or you may order a photo session for $50 plus a $20 transportation fee. (for gas) I do require payment before I begin a drawing. You may send checks, money orders, call with a credit card or you may use
www.paypal.com online. I can email photos of the portrait for approval.
Q: What if I am not happy with my portrait or want something changed? A: I work with my customers to make them happy. Unfortunately, I have to set limits on how many changes I will make to a piece. If you are not satisfied, please let me know immediately. I can almost always make changes and sometimes it is a small detail that makes the largest difference in a likeness! I will make changes ONCE for free (and that can be several things that are changed in one session). After that, I charge a service fee for more changes. Please remember that I am sensitive about my work, and would like to be treated fairly and with respect about portraits.
A: No, I do not frame your work- framing is entirely too subjective. I would be happy to help you and direct you to the best places that I know to frame, but framing is something that is done according to individual preference and taste.
